Lead Practitioner Apprenticeship

This is a fully-funded 14-month programme designed to equip Practitioners with the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to foster continuous improvement in their Academies through the development of teaching and learning.  

The focus is on developing teaching and learning using a variety of tools and techniques, including project management tools to ensure that student outcomes, teacher development, and learning culture are consistently improved. Practitioners will develop the ability to lead change initiatives, support teachers, and make data-driven decisions to enhance educational quality and student success.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Be a current Middle or Senior Leader (with Principal approval)
  2. Have lived in the UK/EEA for the past 3 years and work mainly in England
  3. Hold an employment contract covering the full programme (17 months)

This programme is fully funded by the Apprenticeship Levy. There are rules that govern eligibility. If you find you do not meet one or more of the eligibility criteria above, please get in touch with the Apprenticeships team Apprenticeships@harrisinstitute.org.uk

Participation in this programme is subject to Headteacher approval. In-person training sessions are mandatory in order to gain the qualification.

Leading Teaching and Learning:

  • Upskilling practitioners with the latest research in educational theory and techniques, such as cognitive science and lead implementation change projects.
  • Learn the principles of a cycle of evaluation when leading teaching and learning in a team

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Development of communication and collaboration skills, allowing practitioners to engage with teachers and to lead collaborative improvement efforts.

Effective Lesson Observations:

  • To know how to conduct a lesson observation and series of learning walks and use data analysis and process mapping techniques to identify and address barriers to learning.

AI and Digital Tools:

  • Apprentices also develop an understanding of how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools can support data analysis, automate processes, and enhance decision making.
