ITT into ECT Conference - 19th May 2026

The Eastern Region Teaching School Hubs are delighted to once again, be hosting another ITT into ECT Conference. This free online conference is aimed at trainee teachers who will be come Early Career Teachers in September.

ITT Mentor Conference - 3rd February 2026

We successfully hosted the ITT Mentor Conference on 3rd February. We were delighted to have two key speakers, Christian Turton, Educational Technology Lead at Chiltern Learning Trust and Dan Smith, Deputy Director & Early Career Lead at Alban Teaching School Hub.

Topics: 

• Discussing the ethical use of AI in supporting trainee teachers
• Exploring AI tools that enhance mentoring and professional practice 
• Engaging with mentors applying AI in their educational approaches

Recommended Tools

Tool / Platform	Brief Overview of Uses
Gemini	Used for lesson planning and resource generation. It is also noted as an "Enterprise AI" option when used within Google Education, which protects data privacy. Also under Gems, Personalised stories were demonstrated.
NotebookLM	A tool that uses Gemini available in Google Workspace for education, ensures it grounds it’s responses in the material uploaded.
Aila	Specifically highlighted for its use in lesson planning - asks more questions to encourage better outputs.
Canva	Demonstrated for "vibe coding" to create personalised apps but has many functions, Canva Education version available for schools and trusts for free.
Padlet (ta.padlet.com)	Used for the rapid creation of interactive resources.
Copilot (M365 Ed)	Identified as an Enterprise AI tool that provides a secure environment for processing data without it being used to train models.
SeeingAI	This is a tool that supports those who are visually impaired but also useful for those with SEND.
Teachmate AI	Has a range of tools, the EAL crib sheet tool was specifically demonstrated in this instance.

ITT Mentor Conference - Thursday 6th February 2025

On 6th February the Eastern Region Teaching School Hubs hosted another ITT Mentor Conference with the theme this year being 'From Challenges to Growth: Promoting Wellbeing and Resilience in Mentoring Trainees'.  They were delighted to be joined by Keynote Speaker Melanie Davies from Mind Solutions.

They looked at:

• the changing landscape of ITT and mentorship
• the challenges and barriers faced by trainees and mentors
• the practical approaches to support wellbeing and resilience

Train to Teach in Essex event - Monday 2nd December 2024

On Monday 2nd December, the Chafford South Essex Teaching School Hub, Saffron Teaching School Hub and Unity Teaching School Hub as well as Essex County Council and a representative from the DfE were delighted to host the Train to Teach Essex event at Beaulieu Park School in Chelmsford.  They were joined by a number of ITT Providers in Essex and provided information and support to potential future teachers!  Thank you to everyone who could attend.
